Water (under) World.

Today’s pictures are from Sandhogs by Gina LeVay, a collection of photos of New York City’s underground water tunnels, primarily started after the blackout in NYC in 2003, in which LeVay began thinking about infrastructure of the city.

After that she began researching the underground water system and made contacts amongst the “sandhogs,” the underground workers, who eventually gave her permission to begin desents with them and start taking pictures, most of which she shot in City Water Tunnel No. 3, which began construction in 1970 and isn’t expected to be completed until at least 2020, and is the largest capital construction project in the state of New York’s history and one of the most complex engineering projects in the world today. And the pictures are just amazing.
